Who Grey Blending Works Best For

Grey blending is a great fit if:

• You are somewhere between about 10% and 50% grey
• Your grays are concentrated around the hairline, temples or part
• You want to stretch appointments to 8 to 12 weeks
• You like the idea of eventually going fully grey, without a harsh transition

It is less of a fit if you want zero visible grey. At heavier grey percentages, or when you want complete uniformity, single-process coverage is still the better tool — and we will tell you that honestly at the consultation.

How the Appointment Works

Consultation first. We look at where your grays actually sit, how coarse they are, your natural base, and your color history. Grey hair has a different texture and takes color differently, so placement matters more than formula strength.

Placement. Fine highlights and lowlights are woven through the greyest areas — usually the part and hairline — to break up any solid band of grey. Two or three tonal levels are what make it read natural rather than striped.

Root smudge or shadow. We melt color down at the root so nothing starts with a line. This is the step that buys you the extra weeks.

Gloss and finish. A demi-permanent gloss unifies tone, adds shine, and fades softly instead of dropping off a cliff. Then a blow-dry so you can see how it moves.

Plan on about 2 to 3 hours for a first blending appointment, depending on length and density.

What It Costs and How Often You Come Back

Grey blending at Lotus generally runs in a similar range to our dimensional color work — the exact quote depends on length, density and how much grey we are working through, and you get it in writing at the consultation.

The real savings is frequency. Full coverage clients often come in every 4 weeks. Blending clients typically come in every 8 to 12 weeks, often with a quick gloss in between. Over a year that is a meaningful difference in both time and spend.

Keeping It Looking Right at Home

• Cool water. Hot water opens the cuticle and speeds fading, especially on gloss.
• Color-safe shampoo. We will send you home with the right one for your tone — grey hair reflects everything, so the wrong purple shampoo can go ashy fast.
• Gloss between appointments. A 30-minute gloss refresh is the cheapest way to keep tone honest.
• Treat the texture. Grey strands are often coarser and drier. Our Milbon treatments help them take tone evenly and feel softer.

Using Blending to Go Fully Grey

Some of our favorite work is transition color: clients who have decided they want their natural grey, but do not want a year of awkward growth. Blending is how you get there. We gradually lighten around the grays over several appointments so the two blur together, and one day there is no line to grow out at all.
