Keratin Treatments in South Jersey
What a Keratin Treatment Actually Does
Keratin is a protein that naturally exists in your hair. Over time, heat styling, chemical processing, and everyday wear break it down. A keratin treatment puts it back. A liquid keratin formula is applied to clean hair, worked through from root to tip, and sealed in with a flat iron. The result is smoother, shinier, more manageable hair that resists humidity and cuts your styling time significantly.
The process takes about two to three hours depending on your hair length and thickness. It is not a quick service. But it is one that changes your daily routine.
Who It Is For
Keratin treatments work across a wide range of hair types. They are especially effective if you have naturally curly or wavy hair and want to reduce frizz without losing all of your texture. They also work well for thick, coarse hair that fights you every morning, or fine hair that puffs up the second you step outside in summer.
If your morning routine involves forty-five minutes of blow-drying and flat-ironing, a keratin treatment can cut that down to fifteen. That alone makes it worth considering.
What It Will Not Do
A keratin treatment is not a straightener. It will not make curly hair pin-straight. What it does is relax the curl pattern, smooth the cuticle, and dramatically reduce frizz. You will still have movement and body, just a more polished, controlled version of your natural texture.
It also will not fix severely damaged hair. If your hair is already over-processed or brittle, adding a keratin treatment on top of that can make things worse. We always do a consultation first to make sure your hair is in the right condition for the service. Honesty up front saves everyone time and frustration.
How Long It Lasts
Most keratin treatments last three to six months. The range depends on your hair type, how often you wash, and what products you use at home. Coarser, curlier hair types tend to see the smoothing effect soften a bit sooner. Finer textures usually hold the results longer.
The good part: it does not just stop working one day. The effect fades gradually, so there is no awkward transition back to your natural texture. Many clients come in every three to four months for a maintenance treatment to keep things consistent.
The Aftercare Commitment
This is the part people need to hear before they book. The first 72 hours after your treatment are critical. No water on your hair. No ponytails. No clips. No tucking it behind your ears. The keratin needs time to bond, and any creases or moisture during that window can affect the results.
After that initial period, you will need to switch to a sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner. Sulfates strip the keratin coating and shorten the life of your treatment. Aim to wash two to three times per week. Before swimming, wet your hair with clean water and use a leave-in conditioner.
It is a commitment. If you are not willing to adjust your routine for the first few days and use the right products going forward, the treatment will not give you its full potential.
What It Costs and Why
Keratin treatments are an investment. Pricing varies based on hair length, thickness, and the formula used. Longer, thicker hair requires more product and more time. We use professional-grade, formaldehyde-free formulas at Lotus Salon. They cost more, but they are safer and produce better results.
When you factor in the time saved on daily styling, the reduced need for heat tools, and three to six months of consistently manageable hair, the math works out. But it is still a real expense, and we would rather you know that upfront than be surprised.
Start With a Conversation
A keratin treatment is not something you should book blind. Talk to your stylist first. We will assess your hair’s condition, talk through your expectations, and be straight with you about whether it is the right fit. Sometimes it is. Sometimes a different service makes more sense. That is what the consultation is for.
