Hair Extensions in Marlton NJ: The Honest Guide

Extensions are one of those things people are curious about but rarely ask the right questions about. So here is the honest version: what they can do, what they cannot do, and what it actually takes to wear them well.

Who Extensions Are For

Most of our extension clients fall into a few categories. Some have hair that grows to a certain length and stops. Some want volume. Fine hair that looks flat no matter what they do. Some want to add dimension through color without processing their own hair. And some just want a change.

All of those are good reasons. But extensions are not for everyone. If your natural hair is damaged or extremely fragile, we may recommend a strengthening plan first. We would rather wait and do it right than rush into something that could compromise your hair's health.

The Methods We Use

We work with the best extension brands in the industry. The specific brand on our shelf can shift over time as products evolve — what does not change is the standard. We only use ultra-luxury brands of 100% human hair, custom-matched to your color and texture.

Tape-Ins are lightweight wefts that lay flat against the scalp. Application takes about an hour, and they last six to eight weeks before they need to be repositioned. A great entry point if you are trying extensions for the first time, and they work especially well for adding volume to finer hair.

Sewn-In Wefts are hand-sewn onto beaded rows. They distribute weight evenly across the head and give significant volume and length with fewer attachment points, making them comfortable for all-day wear.

The Consultation

Every extension service starts with a consultation. One of our extension specialists will assess your hair's density, texture, and overall health. We will talk about what you want, how you style your hair day to day, and what kind of maintenance schedule works for your life.

From there, we recommend the best method and map out a plan. Color matching is precise. We blend your extensions to your hair, not the other way around.

What It Takes to Maintain Them

This is the part people underestimate. Extensions require care. Not complicated care, but consistent care.

Brush daily with a loop brush to prevent tangling. Use sulfate-free shampoo and a lightweight conditioner, but keep conditioner away from the bonds or tape, because that causes slippage. Sleep with your hair in a loose braid. Use heat protectant before styling.

And come in for your maintenance appointments. Every 6 to 8 weeks, depending on the method. This is how we keep your natural hair healthy underneath and your extensions looking seamless.

If you skip maintenance, you will notice. Matting, tangling, and visible bonds are not extension problems. They are maintenance problems.

Summer and Chlorine: What Extension Clients Need to Know

This comes up every year, and it is worth addressing directly. Chlorine is one of the most damaging things for extensions. It dries out the hair, strips color from the wefts, and weakens the adhesive on tape-ins and the bonds on fusion extensions. If you are spending time at the pool between June and September, you need a plan.

Before you swim, saturate your hair with clean water and apply a leave-in conditioner. Chlorine does most of its damage by absorbing into dry hair. If the hair is already saturated, it takes on less pool water. Rinse thoroughly as soon as you get out. Do not let chlorinated water sit in your extensions.

If you are a regular swimmer, talk to your stylist about protective products and whether adjusting your maintenance schedule makes sense during the summer months. A little prevention goes a long way toward keeping your extensions looking and feeling their best through the season.

What to Expect

Good extensions should be invisible. Nobody should know you have them unless you tell them. When we are done, your hair should look like your hair, just more of it. Fuller, longer, with movement and dimension that looks completely natural.

That is the standard we hold ourselves to at Lotus Salon. If it does not look real, we have not done our job.

Curious whether extensions are right for you? Book a consultation and we will give you an honest assessment. No pressure, no upsell. Just a conversation about your hair and what is possible.
